A Lovely Harmless Monster

Generative AI statement

I don't use it

Everything on this website was written by me. I don't use generative AI in any capacity, and go out of my way to avoid it and its products as much as possible.

I use semicolons and em dashes because they're the best punctuation for some situations. I understand when it's appropriate to use them, and try to keep my prose as consistent and readable as possible. Click here for an example of why the common heuristics aren't enough on their own to consistently flag LLM writing—you also need to make a qualitative judgment.

Nothing on this site may be used for the purpose of training generative AI.

Why I oppose it

My main objection to generative AI is from morality—it harms people, and there isn't even a trade-off to debate, because every purported benefit of genAI is corporate hype and/or science fiction. I also have philosophical and aesthetic objections, but those are secondary. I have no interest in stories about AI doom or evil future God computers; the actual harm genAI companies are causing now is reason enough to oppose it.
