A Lovely Harmless Monster

Small Good Things

Fire alarms

Someone wrote in regarding my fire alarm mishap and kindly informed me that my fire alarm probably has an optical sensor, which can be triggered by dust, and is less likely to happen if you give it a good periodic dusting. They didn't want their message to be a comment, so I'll keep them anonymous, but thank you for the advice; the fire alarm hasn't misfired since, and hopefully it'll stay that way.

Training

Today was the fifth time I've had to participate in an annoying yearly mandatory training class at work, which I was dreading for a number of reasons, not least of which that it's completely irrelevant to my job. It's important for most of the people who work at my organization, but my position is in the spreadsheet unit, where none of the things related to this training have ever come up in the 4 years I've been there. But! They went easy on us this year. A component of the training that's been "physical" in the past was, this year, simply an informational lecture. The trainers seemed like they didn't want to be there any more than I did, and they speedran the material. I got out of there in 2 hours when in previous years it's been more like 4. Gnarly!

Spam

Spam bots have figured out that there's a comment form on individual blog posts, which sucks. It started as a trickle, maybe one week, and now it's more like one per day. I was hoping I could skate by without needing a captcha, since they're annoying. That's not the good part. The good part is, at least so far, every single spam bot has filled out the form with "if you would like this to be a comment" unchecked and "notify me when this comment is approved" checked. This is a nonsense combination of options that no human would choose, so maybe I can make my message system ignore any message with that combination of checks. That would be a much nicer solution.

Going to bed early

Feel like shit? Going to bed at 21h30 is extra rest, for free! No additional purchase or premium upgrade required.

The library

I've read a lot of great books this year, and none of it would've been possible without the library. You think I can afford to buy a couple new books every month? I wish I could, but I can't, so libraries have saved my butt. It's impossible to be bored if you use a library.

My writing streak

22 days with no misses! Only 9 days of posts to go.

But it's not just about numbers

If you've written anything for Blaugust...

You're doing great!
